What Is the Sonic Labs Airdrop?
The Sonic Labs airdrop is a 190.5 million S distribution that paid users for activity across Season 1 and Season 2, through Sonic Points, Sonic Gems and Game Gems (per Sonic’s airdrop docs). S is the native token of Sonic, the EVM layer 1 that Fantom rebranded into.
Quick heads-up for Solana users: this is not Sonic SVM. Sonic SVM is a separate Solana gaming chain with its own SONIC token. If you’re on this page for an S claim, you need an EVM wallet, not Phantom.
You earned a share three ways:
- Sonic Points: for holding or deploying whitelisted assets (S, stablecoins like scUSD, ETH and BTC variants) as liquidity in Sonic apps
- Sonic Gems: given to DeFi apps, which passed them on to their users
- Game Gems: the same idea for games, based on player activity
The docs list these final multipliers: Sonic tokens 12x, ecosystem tokens and yield stablecoins 10x, pegged stablecoins like scUSD, USDC and USDT 8x, ETH and BTC variants 4x. That’s history now. It only matters if you farmed and want to understand why your allocation looks the way it does.
Sonic’s mainnet launch post advertises up to 10,000 TPS with sub-second finality, plus the Gateway bridge to Ethereum and fee monetization for apps. Sonic calls itself the fastest EVM chain. I haven’t tested that, and none of it changes what you do before 15 October.
How Sonic Airdrop Vesting Worked (and Why It Matters Now)
Each Sonic airdrop allocation was 25% liquid and 75% vested as an fNFT, a tradable NFT position. The vesting length depended on the season:
- Season 1: 75% vested over 270 days, per Sonic’s docs. Claiming early burned part of it on a linear scale, from 100% at day 0 down to 0% at day 270. Claim at day 90 and about two thirds got burned.
- Season 2: 75% vested over six months, per Sonic’s claim announcement when Season 2 claims opened on 25 November 2025. Same idea, shorter clock.
Both clocks have run out. Season 1 has been penalty-free since 18 April 2026 and Season 2 since 24 May 2026. If you sat on your fNFT waiting for the penalty to drop to zero, that wait paid off. Now the only way to lose it is to miss the deadline.
fNFTs bought on Paintswap’s airdrop orderbook are the same positions, so they’re past vesting too. Per Sonic’s April post, eligible fNFT holders claim the remaining S through the same portal.
Sonic’s April post covers Season 1 and Season 2 allocations. I couldn’t find an official statement on whether the separate Kaito campaign rewards follow the same 15 October cutoff, so treat that as unconfirmed. If you earned from Kaito, check the portal anyway. Our Kaito airdrop guide explains how those yap-based campaigns worked.
Is There a Sonic Airdrop Season 3?
No, not as a classic points season. Sonic’s docs say Season 2 and the Kaito campaign have ended and that future rewards will come through targeted airdrop incentive programmes. Around 92.2 million S is reserved in the treasury for sustainable usage, the builder economy and a strategic reserve. The docs don’t give dates for any of it.
My take: don’t park money on Sonic hoping for a surprise Season 3. Nothing is live to farm right now. If that changes, I’ll update this page and add it to our airdrops hub. Until then, your time is better spent where points are actually live. Here’s how we find new airdrops to farm.
What S Does for You Right Now
For this claim, S does two things. It pays gas on the claim transaction, so keep a little in the wallet. And you can stake it on Sonic if you plan to hold. Validators and governance exist too, but they don’t matter for the claim.
FTM to S: Sonic’s mainnet launch post (18 December 2024) said FTM and S could be swapped both ways for the first 90 days, then only FTM to S. That window closed on 18 March 2025, and Sonic’s migration docs now list the upgrade as one-way. If you still hold old FTM, it upgrades to S at 1:1 and you can’t go back.
Risks and Things to Watch
- Fake claim sites. A hard deadline is exactly when fake “claim before the burn” sites show up, so don’t trust links in replies or DMs. Type my.soniclabs.com yourself and never sign an approval you don’t understand. Here’s how to spot fake airdrop claims.
- Leaving it to the last day. Sonic hasn’t confirmed an exact cut-off hour. If you claim on 14 or 15 October you’re gambling on time zones and a slow RPC. Claim this week.
- Gas. You need some S to send the claim transaction. If the wallet is empty, claim the liquid 25% first (if you haven’t already) or send a little S over from an exchange.
- Price. Claiming and selling are separate decisions. I’m not going to tell you what S does next. Claim first so you don’t lose tokens to indecision.
- Tax. Claimed tokens can count as income where you live. I’m in the UK, and we compared crypto tax tools for UK DeFi users if you need to log this.
Verdict
If you farmed Sonic last year or bought fNFTs on Paintswap, go claim it. It’s yours, there’s no penalty anymore, and it takes five minutes. Letting it burn would be a pretty painful way to lose money. If you hold nothing, there’s nothing to do. The points programme is closed, and I wouldn’t farm Sonic hoping for another season.
We’ve seen this pattern before in our Fogo claim walkthrough: a fixed window, then the tokens are gone. Set a calendar reminder, or keep an eye on our airdrop tracker, for every claim you’re waiting on.
If you bring the S back to Solana, LPing on Meteora is what I do with my capital. My wins and losses go up on X (@RazzaeR), and our Meteora guides cover how I set positions up.
FAQ
When is the Sonic airdrop claim deadline?
15 October 2026. Per Sonic Labs’ blog of 2 April 2026, any Season 1 or Season 2 allocation still unclaimed after that date can be burned.
What happens to unclaimed Sonic airdrop tokens?
After 15 October 2026, any address can trigger an on-chain burn of the S left in the airdrop contracts. Sonic said about 32.69M S was unclaimed as of 2 April 2026 and that no additional airdrop minting is planned. You can follow it on Sonic’s burn dashboard at burn.soniclabs.com.
How do I check if I have unclaimed Sonic airdrop tokens?
Connect your wallet at my.soniclabs.com/airdrop. The portal shows any liquid S and vested fNFT positions tied to that address for Season 1 and Season 2. If you farmed from more than one wallet, check each one.
Why does the Sonic claim portal show nothing for my wallet?
Usually it’s the wrong wallet. Check that you connected the exact EVM address you farmed with, and that you’re on the Sonic network. If you sold your fNFT on Paintswap, the position moved to the buyer. If you already claimed both the liquid part and the fNFT, there’s nothing left to show.
Is there still a penalty for claiming my Sonic fNFT early?
No. Season 1 went penalty-free on 18 April 2026 and Season 2 on 24 May 2026, per Sonic’s blog. You get the full vested amount.
Will there be a Sonic airdrop Season 3? Can I still earn Sonic Points?
No new season has been announced, and points can’t be earned anymore. Sonic’s docs say the points programme, Season 2 and the Kaito campaign ended on 1 November 2025. About 92.2M S is reserved in the treasury for targeted incentives, with no dates given.
Is the Sonic Labs airdrop the same as the Sonic SVM airdrop on Solana?
No. This is Sonic Labs (formerly Fantom), an EVM chain with the S token, so you claim with an EVM wallet like MetaMask or Rabby. Sonic SVM is a separate Solana gaming chain with the SONIC token. If you want to move your S proceeds to Solana afterwards, our guide shows how to bridge funds to Solana.
Where can I sell or trade S after claiming?
You can swap S on Sonic DEXs or send it to an exchange that lists it. Our exchange comparison for airdrop farmers covers which platforms suit farming and cashing out.
